Woodstock Pantry News Brief January 7

This weekend, we served 206 neighbors. The focus this week is on training. If you are new to the pantry since last August, please read on to learn about your training.

New Volunteers

We welcomed Libby, Brian, Stacia, Brenden and Torin this weekend. Welcome to you all! We are excited to get to know you!

Hot Meals – New Volunteer Opportunity!

I’m organizing teams now and initiating training for them. We have two special Saturday teams. The 4th Saturday will be focused on teens and young adults .And interested, please contact me right away. Kristen Magis (503) 559-7726 or the 5th Saturday will be focused on families with young children. There’s still time to sign up. If you are kmmagis@gmail.com You can also add your name to the January Sign Up Sheet.

Annual Training

If you are new since August or if you are working a different shift, it’s time to complete your training.

The impetus for our training program is two-fold. First, our vision is to provide top notch service, which includes a volunteer network that is confident in their skills and capable to fulfill their roles successfully. Second, as a partner of the Oregon Food Bank (OFB) and recipient of federal government (TFAP) food, we are required to provide training. We offer training in the most user-friendly ways possible, i.e., on-line and on-the-job training.

News from the Shifts

Receiving – This weekend, we moved 3,686 lbs. of food.Receiving is great for those who like to lift and carry food and get a workout! And we always need folks.

Packing – We ordered a lot of produce and built beautiful produce bags for our neighbors! This team is perfect for folks who don’t do heavy lifting and who like a bit slower pace.

Distribution – Our distribution team enjoyed the nice weather this weekend. And we enjoyed working with a number of new volunteers!Distribution is fast-paced and requires that team members work tightly in sync with each other. It is also the shift wherein we have the closest contact with our neighbors, so customer service is the name of the game! We always need volunteers for these shifts.
