Weekly Rector's Note: Pentecost & Bishop's Visitation this Sunday

Dear Saints,

Sometimes I’m not quite sure how to describe what happened on Pentecost. The wind. The fire. The many languages spoken and understood. There was a lot going on!

This last week, however, I came across a resonant description from a children’s video on Pentecost. Describing the moment when the flames came upon the disciples, it said, “In their hearts they felt a strange heat, almost as if all the coldness and hardness were melting away. As if their broken hearts were mending and God was giving them brand new hearts; hearts that could work properly.”

That description is the miracle I want for the church this Pentecost. Following weeks of heartbreak and heaviness, we need the gift of having our hearts tended to and made new.

In a very Spirited celebration at All Saints, the bishop will be with us at the 10:15am service. We have a baptism, two reaffirmations of faith and a confirmation. Our kids will be leading a streamer procession. As always, you can wear red (or orange or yellow) if you want to color coordinate with the feast day. There will also be a festive brunch after the service. It will be a morning of so many good things to fill our hearts with!

Sadly, I will not be present as my family and I have come down with Covid. We are especially disappointed because Levi was going to be baptized. We will look forward to another date in the future and are thankful it seems to be a mild case. We will be worshipping with you in spirit!
