Weekly Rector's Note: Observing Transfiguration & Lent

Dear Saints,

The late Robin Williams once listed the Top 10 Reason to Be an Episcopalian. There’s another one that I’d like to offer, though, and that is pyrotechnics.

In addition to the candles and incense, we have the New Fire at the Easter Vigil and we also burn the palm branches that were blessed last Palm Sunday to make ashes for this year's Ash Wednesday. The burning of Palm branches will take place this Sunday outside in front of the church following both of our services. We will also be celebrating the Transfiguration and taking every opportunity to say or sing our Alleluias since they are not used in Lent.

This Sunday we also welcome Deacon Maureen Hagen as a part-time deacon at All Saints. Please read her bio below and introduce yourself if you do not know her. I am so excited about her ministry at All Saints and what it means for our community. Deacon Maureen will be leading a study of Verna Dozier’s Dream of God: A Call to Return on Sunday mornings at 9:00am in Lent. You can buy it here, although it is not required that you have a copy to participate.

In addition to the Sunday morning study, we will be having a Midweek Eucharistic on Wednesdays at Noon in Lent, followed by lunch and topical discussion led by our clergy. This will be a nourishing time to engage and enjoy spiritual practices, scripture and companionship with fellow believers.

Lastly, I will note, many are praying for Ukraine and are sickened by what’s going on. It is a good time to lean into the resources of our faith, which Lent makes more readily available. The message of Transfiguration, Lent and Easter is of love’s victory over evil and death, which we deeply hope for in this situation. I join you in praying for our global neighbors, for their safety, and for a peaceful resolution to come soon.

In peace,

Andria+
