Weekly Note from Artist in Residence, Paige

Dear Saints,

I would like to personally invite you to wander with me on a journey. A journey to your heart, a journey to your center, a journey to your deeper meaning. Maybe an awakening. Maybe simply an opportunity to succeed in getting there, in feeling a slight victory, before unwinding back into your everyday lives. What am I inviting you to? To a labyrinth walk. Please join me.

But why? Why would you want to come on this journey? Well, for the ease of it let’s say it’s an opportunity to do something different and fun on a long summer evening. It’s an opportunity to have something sweet to eat, explore something new, and meet up with our community here.

But then again, it’s also something more and deeper. A labyrinth reflects our inner journeys in life. Like Joseph Campbell’s hero’s journey, a labyrinth is a mini opportunity to depart from the ordinary and go on a quest. When you reach the center, you have succeeded in the moment. You’re on top of the mountain, at the foot of your vacation, doing something special: you are here. But then you have to go back, a forever-changed person. It’s hard to describe other than saying that labyrinths are inherently life-changing. Even the little ones. There’s that “I did it,” feeling that just feels so good. But then when you add the deeper spiritual meaning of your journey, it’s a heartfelt experience to note.

This labyrinth has a deeper meaning. It’s representing you and your heart. It’s a way to reflect on who you are and what’s important to you as we all move out of the winding labyrinth of the past two years. We are at the center now: We went through the pandemic, and we’re about to walk into the rest of our lives on this side of the journey. So when you get to the center of the labyrinth this time, we’re asking you to consider the rest of your heart, and who you want to be, and where you want to go, and to ask for a blessing from the Divine.

Mother Andria will greet you at the start of your journey and then you’re on your own. Just you and God and your spiritual guides. And then it’s you. It’s always you. And that’s the other piece of this: wherever you are on the journey, whether near or far, you’re always going toward your center. The labyrinth reflects that. Sometimes you’re so close! And then suddenly you’re all the way at the edge. But always going toward your deeper self. Always evolving into you.
