St. Francis Sunday | All Saints Episcopal Church

Dear Saints,

Every year I look forward to this coming Sunday. Our St. Francis celebration, where we invite our animal family members and companions to worship with us, is usually a noisy, energetic, slightly chaotic service that presents us with a beautiful image of the kingdom of God. One that embraces and cares for all creation.

You can bring your pet to either of our services. The blessing at the 8am service happens at the announcements. At 10:15am we all process out during the final hymn and do the blessings on the lawn. We'll have the ever popular pup-accinos and other treats at both services. And our kids will be singing a special song they've been working on at the 10:15am.

Below I've included a beautiful prayer that we can offer on this St. Francis Day (Oct 4) and our celebration of it this Sunday.

A prayer for the animals by Albert Schweizer

Hear our humble prayer, O God, for our friends the animals, thy creatures. We pray especially for all that are suffering in any way; for the overlooked and underfed, the hunted, lost or hungry; for all in captivity or ill-treated, and for those who must be put to death. We entreat for them Thy mercy and pity; and for those who deal with them we ask a heart of compassion, gentle hands and kindly words. Make us all to be true friends to animals. Amen.

Holy Communion, Rite II Service, held in the Sanctuary, includes a Sermon, Readings, and Hymns. You can participate In-Person or in the Live Premiere on our Facebook page or watch on our website.
