Social Justice Corner Newsletter October 24, 2024

Participating in an election is part of exercising the power you have to positively impact your community through participation in our collective system of governance. It is, quite directly, a means of carrying out the Gospel call to care for one another.

Voting is also much more than choosing a presidential candidate, as important as that is. Voting involves determining elected officials in Congress, your state legislature, and local races like city council, mayors and school boards. These roles often have a much greater impact on the lives of you and your neighbors.

Your vote makes a difference in shaping policies addressing challenges that matter to you. As Election Day draws nearer, we encourage you to reflect on why it is important we put in the effort to vote, from understanding who is on the ballot, what races we are voting for, and how we are to actually cast our vote.

We give thanks for the right to vote. Help us to hold this privilege and responsibility with the care and awareness it merits, realizing that our vote matters and that it is an act of faith.
