Social Justice Corner Newsletter July 24, 2024

Our baptismal covenant calls us to persevere in resisting evil; to seek and serve Christ in all persons; to strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being.

The Episcopal Church has an advocacy arm (Office of Government Relations - OGR) in Washington, D.C. that engages in non-partisan advocacy on behalf of The Episcopal Church. General Convention and Executive Council resolutions set the policies of The Episcopal Church. The Office of Government Relations helps Episcopalians to advocate for these policies.

The Mission of the Office of Government Relations is to:

  1. Advocate: Convey the policy priorities of The Episcopal Church to the U.S. government.
  2. Influence: Help shape policy, legislation and public perspectives to align with The Episcopal Church priorities.
  3. Amplify: Highlight the voices and experiences of Episcopalians and Anglicans globally.

The OGR's grassroot organization that everyone can participate in is called The Episcopal Public Policy Network (EPPN). The Mission of the EPPN is to:

  1. Educate: Connect policies and positions derived from General Convention and Executive Council Resolutions with U.S. policy and legislation issues.
  2. Equip: Provide tools and resources that help Episcopalians impact policy and legislation through their elected officials.
  3. Engage: Facilitate policy conversations with and among Episcopalians, inspire voting and civic engagement to address societal problems.

The EPPN holds a weekly update call (30 min) on Thursday, 10 a.m. Pacific Time. You can also sign up for action alerts (approximately 1 email per week) for you to take action and send letters to your elected representative and senators. For more information on how to sign up or additional resources, please visit: https://www.episcopalchurch.org/ministries/office-government-relations/

Any questions, please feel free to reach out to Alan Murray, an EPPN Ambassador at sfalanmurray@gmail.com.
