Rector's Note: Job and the Question of Suffering | All Saints Episcopal Church

Dear Saints,

One of the most important things for religion to address is the question of suffering. Within this is the issue of theodicy, or how we affirm divine goodness in light of the existence of evil, and also the injustice of suffering, or why bad things happen to good people.

This Sunday, I will be preaching on the book of Job and how it helps us address these questions as people of faith. I look forward to exploring this rich and beautiful text with you. Though suffering is one of the more challenging topics to deal with, I believe that acknowledging and exploring this part of our existence is how we move towards God’s peace and assurance.

This Sunday we will also be celebrating Deacon Kathleen’s ministry at All Saints. She will be joining us via Zoom at Coffee Hour after the 10:15am service (you can participate in person or online). And don’t forget to bring warm items for the St. Francis Closet. These will be given out on October 23, but it’s helpful to get them this Sunday so they can be sorted and ready to go.
