Rector's Note: Signs of Hope

Dear Saints,

Spring is coming! If you're like me, you were surprised to find the sun shining and the weather almost balmy this week following last week’s snow, ice, and frigid temperatures. It’s been lighter outside in the evenings, as well. Both of these are signs that we have almost made it through what’s been described as one of the hardest winters.

In another breakthrough of sorts, I was encouraged this last week to hear from a number of parishioners in their 70s and up who have been able to get their first and/or second Covid vaccine, or get an appointment. While aspects of the roll out have been frustrating, confusing, and slower than hoped, these vaccinations signal that relief is on the way. Spring is coming here, too.

As we find ourselves transitioning from winter to spring, and Lent to Easter, I encourage all of you to hold onto signs of hope and life emerging wherever you see them. Richard Rohr remarks that “Resurrection and renewal are, in fact, the universal and observable patterns of everything. We might just as well use non-religious terms like springtime, regeneration, healing, forgiveness, life cycles, darkness and light.” May we welcome in the renewal of this season as well as the resurrection of life we are preparing to encounter.

This Sunday I’m particularly excited to welcome Fr. Matthew David Morris as our preacher and presider. Fr. Matthew David will be stepping in for me as I take time away. I’m thankful that Fr. Matthew was available so that All Saints can spend one more time in worship and fellowship with him before his move to Colorado later this month.

My prayers will be with you this weekend, and I look forward to being back with you next week.

In peace,

Andria+
