MLK Sunday & Snow Watch

Dear Saints,

On this Friday morning, with a Winter Storm Watch in place, it’s hard to know what exactly the weekend will hold. But it’s a good opportunity to work on the spiritual practice of letting go of our expectations and accepting the flow of life happening in front of us and bringing love to it where we can.

This Sunday, our plan is to celebrate the ministry of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through prayers, music, quotes and excerpts from one of his sermons on love. I’m looking forward for this opportunity to reflect on these powerful ideas together. I also want to thank Alan Murray, James Denman and Deacon Linda Goertz for their help in planning this service. We will send out an email this weekend letting people know if we will hold in person services or will be exclusively online. Regardless, we will always have the online service at 10:15am that streams live on Facebook and can be found on our website.

Here are some resources to learn more about MLK that were developed by Virginia Theological Seminary, which include excellent prayers, readings, and ideas for observing the holiday:

This Sunday, weather permitting, we will also be sharing a presentation on our Outreach Programs. It’s been a momentous year and a half with program development, fund raising and the Pantry build. We are excited to share a bit more of the story with you and the level impact these ministries are having. If the weather is bad, we will postpone the presentation to February.

Also, be sure to check out the new Pantry build rendering below. This is the sketch of the new structure (previous images were of the repurposed storage container concept). It will have a beautiful mural done by Pablo Murals on the exterior to exist as a beacon of hope in our neighborhood.

Light and love to you all. Stay warm and safe this weekend.
