Babkush in the Kitchen!

Hi! I’m Zicra. You may have seen me baking in the All Saints’ kitchen. I live in Woodstock and I’ve been renting the space on weekday mornings since the beginning of the year and I use it to make babka - a sweet, yeasted bread with a variety of fillings folded in - as well as other traditional Jewish baked goods from communities around the world.

Babkush began as a pandemic pivot towards work that was more sustainable, enjoyable and nourishing. And delicious! Particularly in challenging times, it’s the little things that keep us going. And being able to provide folks with a bite of joy feeds my soul!

Babkush is also an attempt to build a business that aligns with my values. With that in mind, I’ve committed to donating a portion of sales to causes that I believe in, particularly social justice organizations, and operating in a way that centers community.

Currently I’m offering babka in three flavors: Cinnamon-walnut, chocolate and chocolate-halva. (Halva is a delicious, crumbly confection made from sesame seeds.) I’m also baking rugelach – small, delicious, crescent-shaped rolls filled with chocolate and topped with syrup.
